A Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude (in February)
Updated: Jan 27
Growing up, I learned plenty of unhealthy coping mechanisms to deal with stress and trauma. Expressing gratitude, however, has been one of the few ways in which I have sought joy, no matter the circumstances. So, I'd like to come back to it in writing from time to time and I'll share it here.
Thank you to:
my students, first and foremost, every day
Kristin Garth for writing and reading this beautiful poem
mandarin oranges being just the right amount of sweetness
the lines in Ariana Grande's "7 Rings": "Been through some bad shit, I should be a sad bitch / Who woulda thought it'd turn me to a savage?"
the coworker who gave me 2 (!!) Ferrero-Rocher's this morning
Moonshadow, for being the most mischievous & adorable of all possible cats
friends near and far, sending me text messages that make me chortle
myself, for not giving up when my serotonin levels encouraged me otherwise, and for all the wonderful mistakes I've made
